The members of the Club Fiat-Lancia Unlimited—North America’s biggest organization for fans of Fiat group vehicles—have been waiting decades for the objects of their affection to return to this country. But it turns out that their long wait won’t go unrewarded. Members were recently given the opportunity to be the first customers to reserve one of what will be just 500 Primera Edizione Fiat 500 models sold in the U.S.
“The Fiat Cinquecento Prima Edizione was developed especially with the Fiat fans in mind,” said Laura Soave, head of Fiat North America, who personally made the announcement at the club’s annual convention. “For over a quarter of a century, the members of this club have kept the spirit of the Fiat and Lancia brands alive in North America through their unique and passionate support for true Italian design. We really value their loyalty, and the Prima Edizione is our gift of appreciation to these fans on behalf of Fiat North America.”
Although small in size, the Fiat 500 comes standard with big-time style, safety, fuel economy and quality, and that’s not going to change for the Prima Edizione. Available in white, red or gray, these limited-edition Fiats will feature a standard manual transmission, exclusive content and badging, and sequentially numbered VINs for enhanced collectibility. Just as significantly, the cars also will holster one of Fiat’s breakthrough MultiAir engines, boasting the “single most innovative engine technology” of the year according to judges of the International Engine of the Year Awards. MultiAir powerplants offer more horsepower and torque, better fuel efficiency, and lower emissions than standard internal combustion engines, all by leveraging cutting-edge advances in engine valve-control technology.
If Club Fiat members don’t buy up the entire run of the Primera Edizione, Fiat will make it available to the general public later this year via the CiaoFiat.com website.
The standard Fiat 500, along with its anything-but-standard approach to the subcompact segment, will debut in North America before the end of 2010.
