As Chrysler aims at reaching its first net profit since emerging from bankruptcy, the automaker is looking to also expand its workforce. According to Chrysler execs, the automaker’s Auburn Hills headquarters is bursting at the seams and additional office space is being sought.

“It’s very full in there,” said Ralph Gilles, head of Chrysler design and the Dodge brand. “It really is exciting.”

Following bankruptcy, the headcount at the Chrysler’s headquarters fell as low as 7,700. Currently, that number is around 10,760, which is approaching the building’s maximum capacity of 11,000 people.

As Chrysler looks for more space at its headquarters, the automaker is also seeing growth elsewhere. With a full lineup of new or revamped models, Chrysler also wants its dealer network to hire more sales and service personnel to fuel the brand’s growth. Chrysler is also hiring additional engineers to work on its next-generation of vehicles.

Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Chrysler and Fiat, expects to see Chrysler’s global sales rise 32 percent this year with a net profit of $500 million.
