Chrysler Begins Work on New RWD Sedan

by Chrysler in the News on July 24, 2009

To appease the U.S. Treasury, Chrysler had to solidify its long-term viability plans and get the federal government to be satisfied with the automaker’s ideas and goals. Two of the vehicles at the forefront of this plan were the all-new Chrysler 300, as well as the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee. Other vehicles in Chrysler’s viability plan also included models from Fiat that will soon join the Chrysler lineup in the U.S.

In addition to these models, Chrysler will be building a new sedan that will be based on a Fiat platform. According to Used Cars Southern Maryland, the platform, which is currently used in Fiat cars such as the Bravo and 2010 Alfa Romeo Milano, will provide a RWD drivertrain with an American design.

This new RWD sedan may be the replacement for the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger, which have both seen dismal sales recently observes Memphis Dodge dealers. It’s possible that this platform will be utilized for Chrysler’s upcoming 200C electric vehicle, but currently it seems more likely to use Chrysler’s own RWD platform, which is currently used for the Chrysler 300 sedan.

These upcoming Chrysler sedans will truly be a hybrid of American and Italian engineering says Connecticut Dodge Jeep Parts. In addition to the chassis, other components that may be sourced from Fiat include suspension and powertrains. Such component sharing could also lead to substantial savings for the automaker as well as the consumer suggests Chrysler Dodge Service Memphis. With a fully RWD lineup of cars, Chrysler may have a unique and competitively priced lineup in the next few years.

Although much has to be approved and ironed out before we see them on the road, Chrysler now seems to have plenty of options thanks to its new alliance with Fiat. Unfortunately, Chrysler has to devise ways to sell its existing lineup until these new models come to fruition.
