Chrysler introduced a lifetime powertrain warranty in 2007, but times have certainly changed. With sales still stagnate, and new car sales still creeping along, Chrysler has announced they will no long offer the lifetime powertrain warranty.
The new warranty coverage on Chrysler vehicles will be limited to five years or 100,000 miles. New York Dodge Repair says the decision was made after discussions with its dealers, and it will be effective on all 2010 model-year products. The warranty is also transferable. If an owner sells the vehicle, it can be transferred to the buyer at no additional charge.
Chrysler executives felt that the lifetime powertrain warranty was not as valuable to consumers as they would have hoped. That being said, they believe the transferability will be more valuable to Chrysler buyers. According to a Connecticut collision center, the new warranty even applies to vehicles that were not covered under the previously lifetime warranty, including performance-tuned SRT vehicles and the Dodge Viper. Diesel powered versions of the Dodge Sprinter and the Dodge Ram were also excluded from the previous warranty but are now covered.
The lifetime powertrain warranty was introduced in July of 2007 prior to the company’s acquisition by Cerberus Capital Management. Now under the control of Italian automaker Fiat, Yonkers Dodge Car Loans remains hopeful that Chrysler can overcome recent financial struggles and return to profitability while providing customers with high-quality products.
